Biography

Hortense (Harris) Mountain was born January 11, 1924 in Lone Mountain,Tennessee and died Friday, July 16, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport,Tennessee.

Hortense lived most of her life in Claiborne County, Tennessee and worked over 35 years as head bookkeeper for the Claiborne Farmers Cooperative in New Tazewell, Tennessee. She moved to Kingsport, Tennessee in 2001 to live with her son, Richard A. Mountain and his wife, Ann. Hortense was a Jehovah's Witness.

Hortense was preceded in death by her husband Forster L. Mountain, daughter Peggy Mountain Fluty, parents William and Beulah Evans Harris, grandparents Henry and Martha Evans and George and Hulda Harris, two sisters Billie Pierce and Louise Beeler.

She is survived by her son Richard A. Mountain and wife Ann of Blountville;six grandchildren: Kimberly Mountain Blevins and husband Pat of Gray, TN, Carrie Mountain Sweet and husband Bill of Kingsport, Sherri Fluty Sullivan and husband Jim of Tucson, AZ, Lisa Fluty Carter and husband Randy of Indianapolis, IN, Kevin Fluty and wife Kim of Lexington, KY, and Dena Fluty Cathey and husband Phil of Tampa, FL.; eleven great-grandchildren : Patricia and Brittany Risner Blevins, Ashlee and William Sweet, Haylee Sullivan Stocker, Shelby, Alex and Macy Carter, Leah and Shawna Wiley, and Sara Cathey; two great-grandsons: Jameson and Griffin Stocker; half-brother Edward Harris and wife Mary of Indianapolis, IN ; special niece Kay Pierce Heiden and husband Glen of Monroe, MI and several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Claiborne Funeral Home, New Tazewell, TN. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 in the Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will follow in the Irish Memorial Gardens in Tazewell, TN.
