Charlotte Ann Messer Swiger, age 68, of Tazewell, TN, departed this life on August 7, 2011, at the Clairborne County Hospital, with her daughter by her side, following a brief illness.
Charlotte was born in Allais, Perry County, KY, on May 8, 1943, a daughter of the late Ira and Gladys Sergent Messer.
Charlotte was preceded in death, on January 7, 2011, by her husband of 53 years, William Roger Swiger, whom she married on August 24, 1957, in Sneedsville, TN.
Charlotte is survived by her loving daughter, Delores Jane ?Janie? McAfee and her husband Jesse of New Tazewell, TN; her son, William Ray Swiger and his wife Debbie of Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren, Jeremy Ray Swiger and his companion Sabrina of NC; Jesse Joe McAfee, Jr. and his spouse Jennifer of Tazewell, TN, Josh Swiger and his wife Jenni of Knoxville, TN and Justin William McAfee of New Tazewell, TN and a great- granddaughter, Emily Rose of NC. Charlotte also leaves behind her sister, Jean Messer Brunner and her husband Donald Brunner, New Tazewell, TN; her son-in-law, David McAfee of New Tazewell, TN; brothers-in-law, Joe Swiger and his wife Jacquie of Morgantown, WV and Jeff Swiger and his wife Lynn of Frametown, WV and Robert Clutter and his wife Vicki of Rock Camp, WV; sisters-in-law, Jeannine Amos and her husband Randy of Clarksburg, WV, Ella Stewart of Grafton, WV, Tina Swiger of Rock Camp, WV, Glenna Swiger of Morgantown, WV, Sheila Swiger of Morgantown, WV and Eunice Laughery of Mesquite, TX; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Also left behind is Charlotte?s devoted companion, her dog, Missy.
In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Lana Lee McAfee; sister-in-law, Ann Clutter; brothers-in law, Randall ?Ranny? Swiger, James ?Tuck? Swiger, Robert ?Ken? Swiger and Ray Laughery and a special aunt, Barbara Sergent.
Charlotte was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a caregiver to many and lived a selfless life in many ways always putting the needs of others first.
She was partial owner, along with her husband Roger, of Straight Creek Boat Dock. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. Charlotte will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Honoring Charlotte?s wishes, there will be no visitation or service and cremation will take place.
