Claiborne - Overholt Funeral Home 1106 Hwy. 33 South New Tazewell, TN 37825 (423) 626 - 2191 Fax (423) 626 - 8440 Mrs. Cleo Ray Davis age 86 of Speedwell, TN was born April 4, 1928 and passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of the Tazewell United Methodist Church and attended Arthur United Methodist Church. Cleo's life revolved around her love of children. First, as a stay at home mother to John and Jean, she was always active in church and school activities. "Miss Cleo" opened a private kindergarten, went on to start the first public kindergarten in Claiborne County, followed by serving as a Title I social worker and finally as service officer for juvenile court. She loved her work so much that she didn't retire until the age of 80. The true love of her life were her grandchildren who she loved beyond measure. The blessing of a great grandchild gave her renewed purpose and delight. The different stages of her life are marked by what you called her- "Miss Cleo" to her students and court associates or "Gigi" by the friends of her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her: Parents: Milt and Vina Ray Brothers: Clyde, Willard and Jack Ray Sisters: Ruth Sharpe and Ruby Surber She is survived by her: Loving husband of 66 years: Jacob Davis Son: John Davis Daughter: Jean Cline and husband Dennis Grandchildren: Levi & Ryn Rowlett Jedidiah & Whittney Rowlett Caitlyn Cline Caleigh Cline Great Grandchild: Taylor Rowlett Sisters-in-Law: Lee Davis, Patsy Maynard and Janice Stover Several nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 5PM till 7PM with funeral services to follow at 7PM in the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with Eulogy by the Honorable John McAfee and a Tribute by District Attorney Jared Effler. Music will be provided by Mallory and Garry Tucker.
