Dessie Burkhart Cross, age 81, of the Lone Mountain, TN Community, Born, August 12, 1936, passed away, March 14, 2018, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Cross, Jr. (Formerly of Brookside, KY); her Mother, Bertha Whitehead Harper; her brother, James Edward as well as many other relatives, friends and loved ones. Dessie is survived by her Daughter, Vivian Burkhart Brown; son-in-law, Charles T. Brown, of New Tazewell; as well as step-son, Bill Cross, III, wife, Denise of Shelbyville, KY; special friend, Michelle Langley of Ewing, VA. She also leaves behind her sister, Beulah Harper Brock and husband Rev. Jimmy Brock; niece, Katherine Rayanne (Brock) Woodruff, husband Jason Woodruff; great nephews and niece: Samuel Thomas, Benjamin James, Gilliana Harper and Luke Azariah Woodruff, all of New Tazewell, TN. She is also survived by her step-grandsons, Nicholas Cross, Adam Cross and great grandchildren, Kaleb, Aubree, Levi and Hailey Cross, all of Lexington, KY. In addition, Dessie leaves behind a host of friends and other family. Dessie was a lifelong member of Lone Mountain United Methodist Church, having accepted Christ as Savior at an early age. She was retired from Claiborne County Hospital, after almost 30 years of loyal service. Dessie was devoted to all animals, particularly her dogs, Leo and Jack! Family will receive friends, Saturday, March 17, at Claiborne Overholt Funeral Home from 6-8PM. A Celebration of her life and remembrance Service will be held Sunday, March 18, at 2PM, with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Eddie Overholt and Rev. Jimmy Brock. Pall Bearers are: Jason Woodruff, Bill Evans, Rado Psar, Dave Hall, Nate Hoffiditz, Randy Love and Lawrence Mabe. Honorary Pall Bearers are: Rev. Jimmy Brock, Sam, Ben and Luke Woodruff. In lieu of flowers, Dessie requested donations be made to Claiborne County Animal Shelter, 674 Ritchie Lewis Road, New Tazewell, TN. 37825 (Attn: Scott) The Family wishes to Thank and Acknowledge those who have graciously served Dessie, particularly, Dr. Tom Livesay, Amedysis Staff, Dr. Melvin Donnesky, Rev.
